Class of 1974 - 50th Reunion

1974

Message from the Planning Committee

It is with great excitement that I invite you to join me for our upcoming class reunion, set to take place on May 17-19, 2024. As we  gather together to celebrate our shared accomplishments, reminisce on the past and create new memories, I urge you to use this website as a resource to stay connected and engaged with one another.

As we all know, our medical school years were marked by countless trials and tribulations, endless hours of studying and hard work, but also by moments of triumph, joy, and camaraderie. The bonds we forged with one another are ones that have lasted for a lifetime, and we look forward to rekindling those relationships and reconnecting with our fellow alumni at this monumental event.

In the lead-up to the reunion, I encourage you to use this website to share photographs and messages, reminisce about the good times and keep abreast of any updates and announcements regarding the reunion.

Let us make our 50th Class Reunion a celebration that truly reflects the lasting bonds that we have forged. See you all on May 17-19, 2024, where we will reunite and create more unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime!

I am retired now after a wonderful career as a Chief of Medicine at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY, followed by medical director of a 3500 doctor IPA in the Rochester region. Our IPA became a leader in promoting value-based care by using physician profiling of quality, efficiency, and patient experience of care. I have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. They make my life so complete. My wife, Ellen Leopold has been the light of my life. I have been very fortunate indeed!!

I'll always remember Muni Barash getting car-jacked outside the WSU gym one freezing winter night in 1971, being locked in the trunk of his car, and then being driven around Detroit for two hours while his captors made drug deals - until he leveraged the tire iron, popped the truck at a stoplight and fled down Woodward Avenue.

I remain at the University of Miami, where I am a tenured Professor of Medicine. I teach clinical skills to medical students and have been a Longitudinal Clinical Educator in the NextGen curriculum. My wife of 43 years, Niramol Savaraj, is a Research Professor at the VA Medical Center in Miami. She has a cancer research laboratory there and together we have been doing clinical and laboratory research in melanoma and in liver cancer. (old photo of us together) In our spare time, we enjoy gardening and traveling and reading. My experience at WSU taught me the value of hard work, patience and compassion for patients and especially gross anatomy as the new curriculum lacks much anatomy exposure.

Anne Hong

I retired the end of 2016 after 38 yrs at the University of Chicago (U of C). WSUSOM prepared me well to spend my entire career there, working as a clinician educator in the section of general medicine, department of medicine. In the last 4 yrs there, I also served as one of two Ombudsman for the Pritzker School of Medicine and the U of C training programs. Now in retirement, I am enjoying the next chapter with my husband, Paul Poy, of 46 yrs. We continue to explore what the great city of Chicago has to offer, with its world class dining, the cultural arts, the professional sport teams, the beautiful lake front and the soon to come Obama Library. We have been involved with volunteering (museums), philanthropy, learning Mandarin, and at times not doing anything.
