Dr. (Don) Bignotti was born in Detroit and earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in Family Practice at Bon Secours Hospital (Now Beaumont Grosse Pointe).

Dr. Bignotti was asked to serve as the first Vice President of Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer of Bon Secours Michigan in 1996. He maintained that role through a joint venture with the Henry Ford Health System that merged the hospital with Henry Ford Cottage Hospital.  He served in this capacity until joining St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in 2005 as Chief Medical Officer. In 2011 he was asked to serve as the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Trinity Health System, where he provided executive leadership for system-wide physician services, supporting efforts to improve care coordination and to incorporate evidence-based practices consistently throughout the organization. In addition, he played a significant role in the organization of their Office of Academic Affairs and Clinical Leadership Development initiative.

Serving as Chief Clinical Officer for Ascension Michigan since 2016, Don is responsible for leading operations across Ascension Michigan's clinically integrated continuum of care including the employed medical group, affiliated providers, owned sites of care as well as clinical quality, safety and GME operations within the State.

He holds board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians and is certified in Medical Quality Management.
