Sarkis Kouyoumjian

Sarkis Richard Kouyoumjian, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, is the Clerkship Director for Emergency Medicine. He had been the Assistant Clerkship Director from 2002 to 2007 and under the guidance and mentoring of Dr Larry Schwartz he became the Clerkship Director in 2007.

 Dr Kouyoumjian graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1998 and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital in 2001. He completed the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship in 2007. He has served as a clinical instructor in Emergency Medicine since 2001, teaching Physical Diagnosis, ACLS and giving didactic lectures. He has been the recipient of his departmental Medical Student Teacher of the Year Award in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011. He was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2010 and has served on several School of Medicine committees. Sarkis was the recipient of the Recent Alumni Award from Wayne State University School of Medicine for 2012.He also was the recipient of the School of Medicine Faculty Teaching Award for 2012. He was the keynote speaker for the 2014 White Coat ceremony. He has served nationally on the Clerkship Directors for Emergency Medicine curriculum committee and is an American Board of Emergency Medicine Oral Board examiner. He has been a CPC case discussant and has been a guest speaker at the Council of Residency Directors. He is dedicated to insuring students and residents become caring and compassionate physicians.

Sarkis was born in Detroit, Michigan and is 52. He is married to Kristin and together they have 2 daughters, Amelia 15 and Maggie 10.
