Ciara Jane Barclay-Buchanan, M.D., is a graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine's Class of 2007. She completed her training in Emergency Medicine at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, where she served as chief resident. In 2010 she joined the Wayne State University faculty, serving as the Emergency Medicine clerkship site director for both Wayne State University and Michigan State University at Sinai-Grace Hospital for three years. She then served as associate residency director for the Emergency Medicine program at Sinai-Grace Hospital before being recruited to Madison, Wisc., in 2015.

She is the associate residency program director for the University of Wisconsin Emergency Medicine residency program, as well as the medical director of Clinical Staffing for the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine. She is involved nationally with the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine and the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors. She is an executive editor for Rosh Review, has written several textbook chapters, and served as a senior textbook editor. Her areas of interest include resident and medical student education, resident evaluation, Emergency Medicine board preparation, visual diagnosis, and mentorship. She and her husband, Steve, live in Madison, Wisc., with their two sons, Calder and Owen.
