Walter Douglas Sr. is the chairman and chief executive officer of Avis Ford and has led the company's interests for more than 30 years.

Douglas is extremely involved with the Detroit community and is a former president of New Detroit, one of the city's premier not-for-profit organizations. He also is involved with Henry Ford Health Systems, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and United Way Community Services.

He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and a graduate degree in business administration at North Carolina Central University, where he was presented an honorary doctorate degree in 1998. He taught at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama and served two years in the U.S. Armed Forces.  He also received an Honorary Doctorate degree (laws) from Wayne State in 2013.
