Gregory Zemenick, M.D. '71
Dr. Gregory Zemenick is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at William Beaumont Hospital in 1972 and finished his residency in orthopedic surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in 1976. In addition to practicing orthopedics, Dr. Zemenick also specializes in pain management.
Dr. Zemenick believes that the arts can help physicians better understand the human condition and encourages students to attend performances at various Detroit theaters.
Dr. Zemenick has succeeded in developing his private practice in addition to teaching residency programs in orthopedic surgery and family practice. Dr. Zemenick has been involved with a variety of medical memberships such as: American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Medical Association, and the Michigan Orthopedic Society.
Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association initiated the Distinguished Alumni Award to be presented annually to an alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes, whose contributions to the health field in the broader sense are outstanding, or for service to WSU School of Medicine. Dr. Zemenick was the recipient of this award at the 2008 Medical Alumni Reunion Day. He recently returned from a month-long trip to Cambodia, where he volunteered at Ankgor Children's Hospital.
In 2008 - 2009 he is serving as president-elect of the Alumni Board of Governors and will be focusing on the development on the medical alumni reunion and clinic CME program. He been very supportive of the strategic initiatives at the SOM and co-chairs the Executive Fund-Raising Committee.
