Amyre Makupson is a former Detroit television anchor. She earned her bachelor's degree in dramatics and speech from Fisk University and her master's degree in speech arts and communications theory from American University. Makupson has won six Emmy Awards and is the author of "So … What's Next?," a compilation of many people's thoughts and hopes about what happens after death.

She has received many awards, including Michiganian of the Year, Outstanding Woman of the Year, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of African-American Women. She is a former board member and is still involved with the March of Dimes, and continues to serve on the boards of the Sickle Cell Association, the Skillman Foundation, Providence Hospital Fund and WGPR TV Historical Society.
