Medical Alumni Board of Governors
The WSU Medical Alumni Board of Governors oversees the activities of the School of Medicine Alumni Association, a separately incorporated 501(c)(7) organization established to represent alumni interests and to strengthen connections among the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s more than 27,000 alumni.
Board members serve as a voice for the alumni body by assisting with fundraising efforts, overseeing the allocation of the Medical Alumni Annual Fund, planning activities for Medical Alumni Reunion Weekend, and volunteering in numerous ways to mentor and advise medical students. Members also promote alumni events and programming through attendance and outreach, articulate the needs of the alumni community to the association, and recognize the accomplishments of School of Medicine alumni by reviewing nominations and selecting recipients for three awards: the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Lawrence M. Weiner Award, and the Recent Alumni Award.
Selection for service is based on the needs of the association. Board appointments are made through a term-based governance process that focuses on overall board composition and the institutional priorities for each appointment cycle.
