Leland Babitch

Leland Babitch, M.D. ’95, M.B.A., serves as an executive medical director for Clinovations, part of the Advisory Board Co. In his role, he works with leadership to assist hospitals and health systems define strategies and priorities to achieve accountable and integrated care. Dr. Babitch leads the Cerner and Advanced Analytics efforts within Clinovations. With more than 17 years in health care, he brings a demonstrated expertise in electronic health records leadership, including computerized physician order entry deployment, upgrade methodology, physician documentation and advanced analytics. He has expertise in health information exchange, population health, hospital governance and analytics.

Before joining Clinovations, Dr. Babitch served as senior vice president and chief medical information officer for the Detroit Medical Center, where he oversaw the EHR activities for the hospital system, which consists of eight facilities. His guidance and leadership also contributed to the health system’s success in reaching Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Stage 6, realizing more than $32 million in meaningful use incentives, as well as a $16 million Beacon Award from the Office of the National for Health Information Technology for health care delivery improvement efforts leveraging health care information technology.

Dr. Babitch has also worked as a medical director for United Healthcare of Minneapolis, Minn. At the Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Detroit Medical Center, Dr. Babitch served as the director of Ambulatory and Information Services for Children’s Hospital of Michigan. During this time, he oversaw the implementation efforts for the Cerner system from early planning through order set development, workflow analysis and implementation support. Dr. Babitch continues to serve as an assistant professor of Pediatrics for the WSU School of Medicine.

He holds a master’s of business administration degree from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in genetics and developmental biography from Northwestern University. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Medical Informatics.

Dr. Babitch received the WSU School of Medicine’s Recent Alumni Award in 2003. The award is presented to a graduate within the last 15 years who has demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, community contributions or service to the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
