Michael Busuito

Michael Busuito, M.D. ’81, F.A.C.P., of Somerset Plastic Surgery, is board certified in general surgery, plastic surgery and hand surgery.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Dr. Busuito completed graduate studies in biochemistry and physiology at Wayne State University before earning his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. His post-graduate studies included residencies in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery and he was named chief administrative resident for both.

Dr. Busuito runs Somerset Plastic Surgery in Troy. He also is section chief of the Plastic/Hand/Reconstructive Department at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. He has surgical privileges at Beaumont Troy and Royal Oak, and the Detroit Medical Center.

He is the founder and president of Operation KINDNESS (Kids in Need Deserve Necessary and Essential Surgical Services), a charitable organization that provides care such as cleft lip and palate surgery for children in severely impoverished areas.

Dr. Busuito has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, and delivered presentations at conferences across the country. He has received several honors, including being named a Detroit News Michiganian of the Year, an Hour Detroit Magazine Top Doc and multiple faculty teaching awards from WSU..

His professional memberships include the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Wayne County Medical Society, the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons and the Midwest Surgical Association. In 2016, he was elected to the Wayne State University Board of Governors.
