Scott Dulchavsky
Scott Dulchavsky, M.D., Ph.D., received his medical degree in 1983 and a doctoral degree in molecular biology and genetics from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he completed his internship and surgical residency. He was selected as the Helen DuRoy Traveling Scholar, allowing him to study at Duke University Medical School in Durham, N.C., and at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He was an assistant professor of Surgery at SUNY-Stonybrook and the director of surgical research before returning to Detroit.
He was promoted to tenured professor of Surgery at WSU in 1998. He was an attending surgeon at the Detroit Medical Center, and director of Surgical Intensive Care and chief of Surgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He serves as chief executive officer of the Henry Ford Innovation Institute and as the Roy D. McClure Chair of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Dulchavsky has mentored more than 100 post-doctoral, graduate and medical students. He is a principal investigator for NASA and for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute in Houston, Texas, and teaches ultrasound for use in medical emergencies and on medical care of exploration class spaceflight to the crews of the International Space Station.
He is a member of the White House Medical Team, which provides regional care for the president of the United States.
Dr. Dulchavsky has been active in many professional organizations, and local and national medical associations. He is a reviewer and study section head of the National Institutes of Health-National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering Study Section for International Space Station research.
He received the WSU School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012, was inducted into the Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2013 and was named a “Top Doc” by Ambassador magazine in 2015.
