John Devens Fisher
Dr. John Devens Fisher is a professor of Medicine for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and director of the Einstein-Montefiore Arrhythmia Service, which includes two component services – Clinical Electrophysiology and Pacemakers/ICDs. He is also the training program director for the Clinical Electrophysiology fellowship, a position he has held since 1975.
He served as chief of Cardiology from 1987 to 1998, and director the Arrhythmia Service from 1975 to 2010.
Dr. Fisher received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University, and after receiving his medical degree from WSU completed post-graduate work at Boston City Hospital, New York Hospital, Montefiore/Einstein and Royal Post Graduate Medical School in London.
His interests include serial electropharmacologic studies, and anti-tachycardia pacing, ablation, exploration of mechanisms of arrhythmia and device therapy. He has published about 200 peer-reviewed papers, several hundred abstracts, and more than 150 reviews, editorials and chapters. He served as president of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (1996 to 1997) and editor-in-chief of Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology. He was appointed chair of the American College of Cardiology’s Electrophysiology Committee (2016 to 2019).
Dr. Fisher is married to Rosemarie Fisher (formerly Lucianin), M.D., a professor of Medicine and former dean for Graduate Medical Education for 10 years at Yale University. She attended the WSU School of Medicine for two years before transferring to Tufts when her husband began his internship in Boston. They have two grown children.
