Stuart Gordon

Stuart Gordon, M.D. ’79, is director of the Hepatology Division and director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is a nationally and internationally recognized authority in diseases of the liver and in the epidemiology and treatment of viral hepatitis.

After receiving his medical degree and completing fellowships in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Gordon completed a fellowship in Clinical Hepatology at the University of Miami School of Medicine’s Center for Liver Diseases. He then returned to Michigan as director of Gastroenterology-Hepatology at William Beaumont Hospital before joining the Henry Ford Health System.

Dr. Gordon has served on several National Institutes of Health study sections, as a reviewer for Gastroenterology, Hepatology, the Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine and other publications. He has written or co-written nearly 200 scientific articles and edited the textbook “Management of Chronic Viral Hepatitis.” He serves on the editorial board of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and is on the abstract selection committee for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. In collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he is the United States principal investigator of the Chronic Hepatitis Cohort Study.

Dr. Gordon has been named in Best Doctors in America and Hour Magazine’s “Best Doctors in Michigan.” In 2004, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. In 2015 he was named a laureate of the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
