Sarkis Kouyoumjian

Sarkis Kouyoumjian, M.D. ’98, is an assistant professor, clinical instructor and clerkship director in the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Kouyoumjian completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital in 2001 and served as assistant clerkship director from 2002 to 2007. He completed a teaching fellowship with the American College of Emergency Physicians and became the clerkship director in 2007. In 2015 Dr. Kouyoumjian was named the Undergraduate Medical Director for WSU students at the Detroit Medical Center.

He was the Medical Student Teacher of Year in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2010. He also received the Staff Award, given by students for excellence in teaching in 2010 and 2012, and the WSU School of Medicine’s Recent Alumni Award and the WSU College Teaching Award in 2012.

Dr. Kouyoumjian has served on several WSU School of Medicine committees and the national Clerkship Directors for Emergency Medicine Curriculum Committee. He is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been a clinical pathological case discussant and a guest speaker for the Council of Residency Directors.
