Gloria Kuhn

Gloria Kuhn, D.O., Ph.D., (Res. ’79), is vice chair for Academic Affairs in the Wayne State University Department of Emergency Medicine.

While Dr. Kuhn received her medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (now Midwestern University), she was an undergraduate at Wayne State University (1962 to1965), a graduate student in instructional technology (1990 to 1998) and completed her residency at Wayne State University-Detroit General Hospital.

She’s maintained a strong interest in medical education since her own residency, and in 1982 she started the first Emergency Medicine residency at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital, only the third such residency in Michigan at that time.

A professor of Emergency Medicine at Wayne State University, Dr. Kuhn was the 2006 recipient of the WSU School of Medicine’s Lawrence M. Weiner Award, which recognizes exceptional performance in teaching, research and/or administrative duties. In 2009, she was recognized for 15 years of service and dedication to the WSU School of Medicine. In 2014, she was awarded the title of Distinguished Educator in the category of Educational Leadership by the Academy for Scholarship in Education, and in 2015, she received the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine’s Advancement of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine Award.

Dr. Kuhn has been a reviewer for Academic Emergency Medicine and Annals of Emergency Medicine, and an associate editor for Academic Emergency Medicine. She is on the board of directors for the Michigan Chapter of Emergency Physicians, is a member of the Education Committee and the Weellness Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and is president of the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine. She also was a professor for Michigan State University.
