Robert Lucas

Robert Lucas, M.D. ’55, is a retired surgeon and professor of Surgery.

After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Lucas practiced at Grace Hospital in Detroit, contributing to its teaching program and becoming a clinical associate professor of Surgery. He relocated his practice to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak in 1973, becoming chief of general surgery, director of the surgical residency program, chief of surgical services and medical director of the entire hospital. He retired in 1999.

Dr. Lucas has served as president of the Detroit Surgical Association, the Academy of Surgery of Detroit, the Michigan chapter of the American College of Surgeons and as governor of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Lucas received the School of Medicine Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000 and served on the SOM Board of Visitors. His four children are all graduates of the WSU School of Medicine.
