Daniel Michael
Daniel Michael, M.D. ’79, Ph.D., is a neurosurgeon with Beaumont Health System who specializes in surgical treatment of injuries to the brain and spine.
Dr. Michael completed an internship at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe before earning a doctorate in Anatomy and Cell Biology from the WSU School of Medicine. He completed a surgical residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center, and a neurosurgery fellowship at Detroit Medical Center/WSU. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
He is the chief of Neurotrauma and Critical Care at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., and professor of Neurosurgery at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He is also a specialist in adult and trauma neurosurgery at the Michigan Head & Spine Institute in Southfield, and an expert in gamma knife treatment using Linac radiosurgery.
Dr. Michael is a noted author of articles and books on the treatment of brain and spine injuries. His current research focuses on the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
He is is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a past president of the Michigan State Medical Society and Wayne County Medical Society. He has served on the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Cardinal’s Medical Morals Committee.
Dr. Michael received the WSU School of Medicine’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003.
