John Prendergast

John Prendergast, M.D. ’63, is a specialist in endocrinology, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He is considered one of the foremost leaders in his field.

After receiving his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Prendergast completed a residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit.

Dr. Prendrgast has been an associate clinical professor of Medicine for the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco; president of Pacific Medical Research Services and Pacific Medical Research Foundation in Palo Alto; medical director of Sequoia Hospital’s Diabetic Treatment Center in Redwood City; a reviewer for the Medical Board of California, the American Board of Internal Medicine and Diabetes Care; chair of the Board of Directors and medical director of Health Protection Inc.; state chair of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists; president of Health Protection Associates Medical Corp.; president of Endocrine Metabolic Medical Center; founder and medical director of DiabetesWell.com and Endocrine Therapeutics Inc.; served on the State of California Legislative Task Force on Diabetes and Obesity; and a medical consultant for the California Bar Association. In 1986, he formed a single specialty endocrinology practice.

Dr. Prendergast has published 40 scientific papers and the book “Dr. Joe’s Rx For Managing Your Health.” He has lectured extensively in the United States.

Among other honors, Dr. Prendergast was recognized by the American Medical Association with an award for Excellence in Eliminating Health Disparities.
