Earl Rudner
Earl Rudner, M.D. ’59, is a board-certified dermatologist.
After receiving his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine and completing an internship at Detroit Sinai Hospital, Dr. Rudner served for two years in the United States Army as a preventive medicine officer stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He then completed a dermatology residency at WSU and fellowship at St. John’s Hospital in London, England.
Dr. Rudner has been a clinical associate professor of dermatology for the WSU School of Medicine, president of the WSU School of Medicine Alumni Association (1985 to1986), vice chair of Dermatology at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital and founder of the Contact Dermatitis clinic at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
With his wife, Bonnie Brenner, Dr. Rudner has taken some unusual and challenging summer “breaks,” including volunteering in a Head Start program in Browning, Mont.; performing physical exams on firefighters battling unusually fierce wildfires; working at a small medical school in Greece; and as a volunteer dermatologist at the Nazarene Hospital in Papua, New Guinea.
Dr. Rudner received the WSU School of Medicine Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1992. The award is presented annually to one or more alumni who have made outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes, whose contributions to the health field in the broader sense are outstanding or for service to the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He was named to the Best Doctors in America list (2007 to 2008).
