Michael Sandler
Michael Sandler, M.D. ’71, is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist who serves as a member-at-large of the Michigan Radiological Society. He was one of the earliest practitioners of ultrasound in Michigan.
Dr. Sandler completed an internship at Sinai Grace Hospital (1972) and a residency in diagnostic radiology at University of Michigan Hospital (1975). As an undergraduate, he studied political science at UM.
He joined the Henry Ford Hospital Diagnostic Radiology Department as a physician and teacher, and was once named Teacher of the Year. He served on the Education/Resident Selection Committee for 15 years, and initiated and was director of a fellowship in cross sectional imaging for 22 years. He also served as vice chair and was twice interim chair of the Radiology Department.
Dr. Sandler received the Henry Ford Health System’s Distinguished Career Award in 2006 and the WSU School of Medicine Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011.
He is a past-president of the Michigan State Medical Society, the American Society of Clinic Radiologists, the Michigan Radiological Society, the Wayne County Medical Society and the WSU School of Medicine Alumni Association Board of Governors. He has served as chair of the Michigan Doctors PAC board of directors and as a member of the PAC Board of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Sandler also has been awarded fellowships in the American College of Radiology, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He is the author or co-author of 60 papers and 22 exhibits.
