Stephen Shaya, M.D. ’96, is executive vice president of J & B Medical and a family practice physician.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in classics and classical languages, literatures and linguistics, and his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Shaya became a family practice resident at North Oakland Medical Center, and then an occupational and environmental health fellow at WSU.

While an undergraduate at WSU, Dr. Shaya first worked for J & B Medical, a privately held global health care solutions company in Wixom, Mich. He returned there in 2004. He serves as executive vice president of Medical Affairs and Corporate Development. He has helped the company grow from a family business to a global enterprise, with an eye on innovation such as telemedicine and other technology that allows patients to be cared for at home.

Dr. Shaya serves on the advisory board of the Student Statesmanship Institute, a leadership program for high school students featuring legislative, media, business, campaign and judicial tracks with a Biblical worldview. He was presented with the 2015 Global Distinguished Health Care Leadership Award and a United States Congressional Commendation from the Center for Economic and Leadership Development and the National Organization for Black Elected Legislative Women (“NOBEL”).
