Harvey White
Harvey White, M.D. ’78, F.A.C.C., has dedicated himself to direct patient care, clinical research and leadership activities designed to improve both the lives of individuals as well as our health care system.
Dr. White is the former developer and medical director of the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. He has served as president of the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association, governor of the American College of Cardiology, president of the American Heart Association and leader of the Southwest Heart Foundation.
He graduated Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Williams College in 1974, and later Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society status from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Following an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, Dr. White spent several years in the Public Health Services’ Indian Health Service on the Apache Indian Reservation in White River, Ariz. He returned to Rhode Island, completing fellowships in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology, before assuming the role of director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Roger Williams Hospital, and then director of the Division of Cardiology. He moved to New Mexico in 1988 as a leader in the interventional cardiology community serving a trendsetting role in cardiology practice and hospital development.
Most recently, Dr. White has concluded that we as individuals and a society we must enhance our focus on prevention and take an increasingly proactive approach to our circulation and personal wellbeing. Towards that end he established Vessel Health LCC, a pioneering medical enterprise emphasizing personalized circulatory health promotion, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Dr. White was a participant in multiple clinical trials, both as primary investigator and co-investigator. He assisted in the authoring of several papers, and played contributory roles in such investigations as the TIMI and BARI trials. He was principal investigator in the GUSTO, GUSTO IIA and GUSTO IIB, RAPPORT, RAMI, SCORES and the CAVEAT trials. He co-founded the Carotid Stent Research Program in New Mexico. Dr. White’s interests include such topics as coronary blood flow assessment; acute myocardial infarction management; imaging in coronary intervention; adjuncts to coronary angioplasty; interventional techniques in both coronary and cerebral vascular disease; and care of lower extremity venous conditions. Lately as his attention has turned to prevention, Dr. White has become increasing committed to the influence of lifestyle on health and the development of transforming health care platforms. He maintains an active role in the academic program at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
