Ernest Chiodo

Ernest Chiodo, M.D., J.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., served for many years as an assistant clinical professor of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Public Health at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He also served as an assistant adjunct professor of Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology at Wayne State University.

Dr. Chiodo earned four degrees from Wayne State University - Medical Degree, Juris Doctor, Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Master of Science in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences. An avid lifelong learner, he also earned a Master of Public Health Degree from Harvard University School of Public Health, Master of Science in Threat Response Management and Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and Master of Science in Evidence-Based Health Care and Master of Science in Experimental and Translational Therapeutics from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Chiodo served as the medical director and manager of Medical and Public Health Services for the City of Detroit, and was the chief physician responsible for measures designed to protect the public health of more than 1 million people living or working in the city

Honored by the Engineering Hall of Fame of the Wayne State University College of Engineering as a Distinguished Biomedical Engineer, Dr. Chiodo has been elected to full membership in the Society of Toxicology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.

He also is certified in the engineering and public health discipline of Industrial Hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and is a past-president of the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society, the first industrial hygiene organization in the United States.

Dr. Chiodo is licensed to practice law in Michigan and Illinois. He has served on the Environ-mental Law Council of the State Bar of Michigan. He has also served as chair of the Environ-mental Litigation and Administrative Practice Committee of the State Bar of Michigan. He has served as an adjunct professor of law at John Marshall Law School and Loyola University Law School, where he taught toxic tort law.

Dr. Chiodo serves on the WSU Medical Alumni Association Board of Governors and continues to practice medicine and law from his office in Clinton Township, Mich. In 2023, he received the the WSU School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award.
