Notes of Appreciation

Every contribution alumni make, whether providing a meal or housing for a medical student, offering career advice or a shadowing opportunity, hosting an event, or donating to the Medical Alumni Annual Fund, has a lasting impact on the School of Medicine community.  Below are expressions of appreciation from medical students for support they have received from alumni.

Event: Shadowing

Event Year: 2022

Matthew

I had the wonderful opportunity to shadow Dr. Oppat at Comprehensive Vascular Care in Novi Michigan. During the whole day Dr. Oppat was very welcoming and friendly, making it a stress free environment for myself. In addition, he was a fantastic teacher to both myself a medical student as well as all of his patients. His abilities of being able to explain complex medical pathologies in a concise yet digestible manner is something I hope to be able to do as a practicing physician in the future. Dr. Oppat was also stellar during all of his patient encounters, he truly treated each patient as individuals, catering to their unique concerns as well as displaying their own CT angiography and ultrasound results so they can better appreciate the situation. Furthermore, it was also a very unique experience in that I was able to learn some of the in's and out's of the daily clinic practice in a surgical subspecialty, which is one of the aspects that is really not taught in the first and second year medical school curriculum. All together, the shadowing experience is one not to be passed up if you are a medical student looking to learn more about vascular surgery or any surgical subspecialty. I cannot thank Dr. Oppat enough for the opportunity and knowledge I took away from the day.
