I am glad I got an opportunity through the WSUSOM alumni association shadowing program to shadow Dr. Vinay Pallekonda, who is an Anesthesiologist at the Harper hospital. My goal during pre-clerkship years has been to shadow physicians who work in fields that I was interested in, to get some level of exposure that would then inform my elective and residency choices in the future. Specifically, shadowing Dr. Pallekonda helped me get a sense of the daily routine followed by residents, starting from didactics and case presentation, followed by surgical involvement as well as pre and post-operative patient care. This shadowing experience has definitely raised my interest in Anesthesiology, and I'm considering doing an elective in this field in my third year, to further gauge my interest in an Anesthesiology residency.
