At 12:37 pm the Alumni Association President, Dr. Rebecca Klisz-Hulbert, welcomed everyone to the 2024 Annual Alumni Reunion.

Dr. Klisz-Hulbert acknowledged the classes ending in 4 & 9 celebrating their special class reunions.

Dr. Klisz-Hulbert announced that our bylaws require that we hold an official meeting and election during Medical Alumni Reunion Weekend.  Dr. Klisz-Hulbert asked for approval of the April 29, 2023 meeting minutes. The motion was carried.

A video that Dr. Piero Simone recorded describing his involvement and ways to become involved with the Medical Alumni Association was shown.  There is a flyer on the tables with a QR code for more information on volunteer opportunities.

Membership - I am pleased to report that for the 2023 fiscal year, which ran from October 2022 through September 2023, we had 2,708 dues-paying members of the Medical Alumni Association. To all the dues-paying members in the room, thank you for your support.  If you aren’t a member, no worries, there are membership forms on your tables. Membership is not only one of the best ways to show your pride in the medical education you received at the School of Medicine, but it also provides critical resources to the Medical Alumni Association.

Medical Alumni Annual Fund - which the Medical Alumni Board of Governors oversees, the 2023-2024 Medical Alumni Annual Fund has raised $270,000 in cash.  This puts us just over halfway to our goal of $500,000, with five months to go. The Medical Alumni Annual Fund is vital to our students’ medical education and training and their academic success. We take great pride that the Class of 2024 achieved an astounding 98.1% match rate, which is 5% higher than the national average, in part, because the Annual Fund supports many of the programs that contributed to their success. Alumni Impact Video was shown.

We are extremely grateful to all who have contributed to the annual fund, and we are especially appreciative of those who made a special gift in honor or your reunion this year.

Treasurer Report - Dr. Patrice Harold, Treasurer, Medical Alumni Association reported.

  • The Medical Alumni Association receives the bulk of our funds from membership dues.
  • Our goal is to use these funds, which should not be confused with donations to the Medical Alumni Annual Fund, to promote and support the School of Medicine and the Medical Alumni Association.
  • These funds are primarily used:
    • To sponsor Medical Alumni Association Lifetime of Dedication scholarships for students.
    • To subsidize alumni-sponsored events like Medical Alumni Reunion Weekend and Future Docs to help keep them affordable to graduates at all stages of their medical careers.
    • To purchase the School of Medicine-branded merchandise and apparel that is sold in the alumni office and online to help generate pride and loyalty.
    • And to sponsor booths and ads at medical conferences.
  • Our closing balance on December 31, 2023 was $36,446.

Election of the Medical Alumni Association Board of Governors – Dr. Rebecca Klisz-Hulbert reported.

The full slate is on the table. The slate was established by the Nominating Committee based on nominations that were received when they put a call out to all School of Medicine alumni in the fall.  The slate was reviewed and accepted by the current board at their April 10th board meeting.   A motion was called and carried.   All current, and newly elected members of the Medical Alumni Association stood for recognition.

The meeting adjourned at 12:54 p.m.
